Celtic face Hearts this weekend in a challenging top of the table clash at Tynecastle. The Scottish Champions travel across the M8 to face the league leaders, who are five points clear. Brendan Rodgers has mixed memories at this stadium, winning his first Premiership game there as well as his first title.
The weekend promises to be a thrilling meeting but Celtic will draw inspiration from a meeting back in 2022 in which Celtic defeated Hearts and VAR.
On This Day in 2022, Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic edged a dramatic 4–3 win over Hearts at Tynecastle, with Greg Taylor scoring his first league goal in the 76th minute to clinch victory. Celtic went ahead through a goal by James Forrest but Hearts went ahead either side of the break before Giakoumakis restored parity.
Celtic went back ahead through Daizen Maeda but Hearts quickly equalised. The match saw several contentious VAR decisions, particularly over penalties and a disallowed Celtic goal. This was VAR’s first outing and it’s safe to say that there was room for improvement.
