On This Day: Celtic title celebrations, a record ending and Lennon sets up Derby Day title win

On This Day in Celtic’s illustrious, unbroken history there are a number of games that took place. Thanks to LilZe on Twitter, we can take a trip down memory lane and look at some of Celtic’s goals on this day in the 21st century.

2002 – Celtic 1 Rangers 1

In an ill-tempered clash at Celtic Park, Rangers clawed an unlikely draw to break Celtic’s 100% home record for the season. An early goal from Lovenkrands gave the Ibrox side the lead before Thompson pulled Celtic level. The game was Lubo’s last competitive match at Celtic back and while it was a sendoff for Moravcik, Kenny Clark decided to send off two Celtic players for defending themselves.

2004 – Celtic 1 Aberdeen 2

Having clinched the league the week before, Celtic hosted Aberdeen at Celtic Park. Celtic’s undefeated home run that stretched back to 2001 was ended by Aberdeen after Martin O’Neill’s side surrendered a goal lead to lose 2-1. Larsson scored for Celtic before Prunty and a late goal from Zdrillic ended the 77 game unbeaten record.

2013 – Celtic 4 Inverness CT 1

Celtic clinched their second league title in a row following a 4-1 home win over Inverness CT. Despite it being 0-0 at half time, Celtic started the second half in a menacing mood as Neil Lennon’s men moved to win the league. A goal from the captain on the day, Joe Ledley, a brace from Gary Hooper as well as Georgious Samaras sealed two-in-a-row.

2018 – Hibernian 2 Celtic 1

Celtic missed the chance to win their seventh title in-a-row at Easter Road following a surprise defeat. Neil Lennon’s Hibs took the lead through Jamie Maclaren as the Edinburgh side dominated the side from the start. Slivka made it 2-1 before Odsonne Edouard pulled one back for Celtic but it was too late to rescue. However, the defeat in Edinburgh allowed for a great day the following week as it gave Celtic the chance to win 7-in-a-row at home to Rangers.
