On This Day: Happy Birthday to Stuart Armstrong

On This Day, former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong celebrates his 31st birthday. The player was back in Glasgow over the last week in the blue of Scotland and he’ll have certainly enjoyed the early present of a 2-0 victory over Spain.

Celtic signed the Highlander from Dundee United, where he had impressed under Jackie MacNamara. The player actually signed a pre-contract before making a deadline day switch and joining Ronny Deila’s team in time to make his debut against Partick Thistle at Firhill. This initial spell was impressive, even if he was cup-tied for the League Cup Final against United which Celtic won. His second season was less impressive and it was believed he might leave only to be rejuvenated under Brendan Rodgers. The Invincible season stands out as being particularly impressive from Armstrong, in particular, his leveller against Aberdeen in the 2017 Scottish Cup Final.

In his time at Celtic, Armstrong scored 28 goals and bagged 25 assists across 144 appearances as he picked up four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

Who could forget that song?

Armstrong has scored one goal in twenty-six appearances this season, but given their place in the table, it looks as if he may be playing Championship football next season.

Happy Birthday, Stuart.
