On This Day: Nakamura’s free-kick strike earns draw at Tannadice

On This Day, Celtic travelled to Tannadice under Gordon Strachan as the Champions-elect looked to take a step towards the league title. It was through a sensational piece of skill that Strachan’s side took the lead. The Japanese playmaker stepped up and delivered an inch perfect shot that left the United goalie flat footed.

In a season in which Nakamura scored a winner from a free-kick against Manchester United and a league winner against Kilmarnock, it is understandable that this one may have been missed. Especially as Celtic conceded a late equaliser to Jon Daly.

Celtic: Boruc, Caldwell, Pressley, O’Dea, Naylor, McGeady, Lennon, Hartley, Nakamura, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Beattie (Zurawski 60). Subs Not Used: M.Brown, Riordan, Gravesen, Perrier Doumbe, Sheridan, Kennedy.

Celtic have since adopted a new generation of Japanese stars in the form of Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate with Iwata and Yuki Kobayashi also involved in the first team.
