Onus is all on them going into the Glasgow Derby

Onus is all on theRangers going into the derby, and I wouldn’t have it any other way…

Their supporters are very confident of victory in the upcoming Glasgow Derby next weekend. That is quite a turnaround from the opening day of the season when the bears were left fuming after their defeat at Kilmarnock.

Since then they have beaten a poor Livingston side, scraped past Servette’s second string, and laboured to a tight victory over Championship side Morton in the League Cup, thanks to an incredibly soft penalty award.

Of course Celtic’s defeat to Kilmarnock and their 2-2 draw against a lacklustre PSV side has given the Bears new-found confidence ahead of the Glasgow Derby. Although it could be said that they have every right to be confident, considering Celtic’s dreadful display against Kilmarnock and our rapidly increasing injury problems.

I’d imagine the bookies will have them as favourites and the Scottish mainstream media will spend next week talking them up and maybe have one or two negative stories about Celtic up their sleeves. So it would appear that everything looks to be going in their favour ahead of the Glasgow Derby.

The game will be at a packed out Ibrox with home fans only in attendance, a full strength home side against a below par, weakened throw injuries, Celtic. The onus is all on the home side. Their pals in media will expect a home victory, their supporters will demand a win, well even some Celtic supporters are expecting them to take the three points, judging by comments on social media this week.

And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. The pressure is all on them. They are expected to win, it will be demanded by their supporters. Yes the key word is pressure, and we know how they handle pressure…Beale’s never been able to win when it really matters. And of course there’s plenty of football to be played before the game kicks off next Sunday.

They have their trip to Dingwall to face Ross County in the Scottish Premiership this lunchtime and PSV in the Champions League play-off in Eindhoven on Wednesday night. Celtic have St Johnstone at home in the league this afternoon. The results of all three matches, together with the activity on the transfer front this week will all have a bearing on the Glasgow Derby.

For now Celtic just need to make sure we get our third straight win in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon, then attention will turn to getting the points at Ibrox.
