Opinion: Celtic should take advantage of club’s relegation and sign Wigan’s Antonee Robinson

CELTIC appear to be on the hunt for a new left back with Hajduk Split’s David Colina previously linked. Greg Taylor currently has the jersey with Bolingoli struggling to regain his space in the starting XI. Whilst Bolingoli started well in the role, since the turn of the year, Taylor has become the club’s first pick.

Should Bolingoli look for first team football, Celtic could look to Antonee Robinson as a potential left back bargain. The US International was due to join AC Milan for £10m in January; however, the deal fell apart when the player failed the medical.

Due to the relegation to League One as a result of Wigan’s administration, Robinson could be available at a knockdown price of just £1.5m according to the club’s administrators. The 22-year-old former Everton youngster played 39 times in the Championship last year and would offer Greg Taylor competition for the left back role. Jonny Hayes deputised a lot last season on the left side of defence but following his departure, Taylor and Bolingoli were the only fullbacks.

Celtic had been linked with Hajduk Split’s David Colina but according to Croatian publication Index, Scottish Champions were quoted at least £3m by the Croatian club when asking about bringing the ex-Monaco kid to Paradise.

Colina switched Zagreb for Monaco’s U19s in 2018 before a move back to the Adriatic coast just a year later – where he has made his name.
