Outside Scotland looking in, Rodgers v Gerrard Part 2

THE narrative outside Scotland looking in at the fascinating rivalry between former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers – now the mega successful manager at Celtic – and his former skipper at Anfield, Steven Gerrard, is completely different from the stuff that is has been getting spoon fed to the masses in the Scottish press.

Rangers lack status, their problems are well known, their tactic in approaching Gerrard regarded as being cynical.

The financial gap between the two clubs is recognised.

Steven Gerrard is regarded as a man in a hurry who may have been better going the more stable club in MK Dons.

Brendan Rodgers is regarded as a fine coach who improves players but any notion that he might be getting a little bored winning everything in Scotland has been blown out of the water…by David King!

King in appointing Gerrard has sparked a rivalry that Rodgers will thrive on and he is sure to stick around to make sure that he comes out on top.

For Gerrard it is a temporary job and he can survive a sacking after six months because the Ibrox side is such a basket case.

The former manager, Mark Warburton, points out the financial reality and if Celtic reach the Champions League group stages, notes that there will be an additional £35million coming into the Parkhead coffers – and rangers have no hope of matching that.

The most Gerrard can hope for is to reduce the gap to around 10 points and maybe win one or even get a draw in an Old F*irm game. Then he can be regarded as a success.

It’s funny noting what outsiders see when looking in on our game. Have a look here…
