Owen Moffat ‘wasn’t in the calculations’ two weeks ago, says Ange

Often the star of the Celtic B team, Owen Moffat has grown from ballboy to prodigy in his time at Lennoxtown.

Becoming Celtic’s main man in the newfound ‘Colts’ team that sit fifth in the fifth tier, even Moffat’s biggest doubters cannot deny he has been knocking on the fringes of the first team.

He made his debut for Postecoglou in the last-gasp 2-1 win over Ross County on Wednesday, arguably becoming a lucky charm for the big Aussie after Anthony Ralston’s decider.

15th December 2021; Victoria Park, Dingwall, Scotland, Scottish Premier league football, Ross County versus Celtic; Anthony Ralston of Celtic celebrates after he heads the winner for Celtic in the 97th minute, making it 2-1.

And having come into the picture for his League Cup final against Hibs, it is clear to see that Ange sees something in the diminutive wizard.

But the newly-heralded saviour of Celtic Football Club has surprisingly claimed that Moffat wasn’t even in the first-team picture just two weeks ago – and although that probably has something to do with Jota’s injury, the trust put in Owen is clear to see.

“That’s football life,” Postecoglou said in The Scotsman.

“Life is about opportunity. Not just being in the right place at the right time, but also being ready for it.

“Moff probably wasn’t in the calculations two weeks ago, but we just had so many injuries and we brought him into training and he has looked bright. We brought him on the other night and he looked good.

“That, to me, is a lesson for every player out there. You have to be ready for that opportunity. No one is going to write down the date it’s going to come, that’s not how a career goes.

“It was good to have him to be able to throw on at the end there, because I knew Mikey and Kyogo wouldn’t last the distance.”

It surely won’t be long until Moffat makes the jump to the first-team permanently – but Celtic fans have known this would happen for a long time. Let’s hope he makes more appearances soon.
