“Painted Big Ange in South Melbourne in time for his homecoming”

Ange Postecoglou has two more matches in the Scottish Premiership to deal with, Wednesday night’s trip to Fir Park to take on Motherwell – who today announced that the game will be available to view via PPV for £15 – then it’s the visit from Ross County to Celtic Park on Saturday, before his attention turns to his Homecoming Tour in Australia.

Celtic take on Sydney FC on Thursday 17 November at the Allianz Stadium, Moore Park NSWW (kick-off time is 8.45am (Celtic Park Time) before playing Everton on Sunday 20 November at Accor Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park NSW (this has a new kick-off time of 3.35am Celtic Park Time!).

This game was of course meant to be the first overseas meeting with theRangers, the first ever Glasgow Derby played outside of Scotland since the fixture began all those year ago. It all started back in 2015 in the League Cup semi-final at Hampden when Celtic won 2-0 thanks to goals from Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons. Having initially accepted the opportunity to play in the match theRangers’ bottle went and they pulled out with potential contractual problems perhaps in the offing.

After those two financially lucrative games in Australia, Celtic don’t play again until the trip to Pittodrie on Saturday 17 December to take on Aberdeen, with the break being there to accommodate the winter World Cup in Qatar.

The Syndey Cup line-up before theRangers pulled out

Ange Postecoglou has already confirmed that he will not be going to the World Cup but instead will use the week after the games in Syndey to get back home to Melbourne for a holiday to visit friends and family and to watch some of the action on television with his mates. He’ll then head back to Scoltand to take the Celtic players not going to the World Cup to a training camp in Portugal which will include at least one match (against French side Stade Rennais Football Club).

It’s clear that Melbourne is getting ready for the return of their prodigal son, now of course a wild rover, as this mural that has appeared in South Melbourne indicates.

This is only the start of what we’re likely to see as Australia gets ready to salute Big Ange…
