Celtic have reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool on a fee for Academy starlet Ben Doak who earlier this year made his first team debut for Celtic, coming off the bench against Dundee United at Celtic Park. According to The Athletic, Celtic will receive a compensation fee of around £600,000 for the 16 year old.

Doak, who will not be eligible to play for the Liverpool Academy until next season told The Celtic Star in January that his dad is the key figure for his football development and clearly the family reckon that it’s best getting into the Anfield club when the opportunity is there, even if that disappoints Celtic, the club Doak supports.

Doak scored a hat-trick for Scotland Under 17s this week against Georgia. Despite Ange Postecoglou providing a clear pathway to the Celtic first team it appears that the Doak family had their minds settled on the chance to work with Jurgen Klopp, who is also a manager with a track record in giving youth players a chance.

Leeds United were also linked with the winger and offered a more financially lucrative deal to Doak but his heart has been set on Liverpool, despite recent rumours that a change of heart regarding staying at Celtic might have been in the offing.

Doak celebrates with the Celtic players after the 3-0 win over theRangers on 2 February 2022.

The writing was on the wall after Doak dropped out of the Celtic first team entirely after playing for the closing stages in the 3-0 win over theRangers on 2 February and responding to a question from the Celtic fan media Postecoglou made it clear that only players who wanted to be at the club would be selected for his squads. We wrote about this in the article, dated 1 March and shown below.

Best of luck to the young lad at Liverpool. At least he’ll still get to hear YNWA, although admittedly not sung as well!
