Photo: Hibs decision to cut Celtic’s allocation backfires

Celtic face Hibernian this afternoon in the Scottish Premiership. The Scottish Champions will be hoping to go within two points of leaders Hearts with a win at Easter Rd. However, there is a reduced away support in Leith after the Edinburgh club opted to cut Celtic’s allocation.

The Celtic support, who have previously held all of the South Stand, have slowly seen their allocation cut to just a section of Stand. Hibs decided to do this in order to sell tickets to their own fans, which makes sense if there’s a demand for it. Although, as the players lined up, it was clear that their efforts to sell the South Stand lower section had been unsuccessful and they had not even opened the upper section.

The number of empty seats around the ground begs the question why Hibs have shot themselves in the foot by passing up a chance to host more paying Celtic fans.

  1. Rubbish.
Clubs are tired of the Glasgow 2 singing their bile sectarian songs in our ground. This is a response to the allocation both Rangers and Celtic afford visiting teams to Ibrox and Parkhead.
Rather have empty seats than that rubbish polluting our ground. Clueless take by this amateur reporter that doesn’t understand how Scottish supporters feel. GREAT job Hibs!

      • Mahatma Ghandi on

There were about 20 Celtic fans and a drummer making all the noise.
Don’t know why they insist on IRA stuff when we’ve got lots of great songs.

    • If only that were true John! The fact is it was done to sell more tickets to your own fans. That’s the only reason! Unless you are deaf in your home side ear drum, your own fans don’t actually sing hymns at games either! So the holier than thou act doesn’t fly with us!
Clubs like Hibs can’t afford to throw away good money like this, then complain of a financial gap at the end of the season!
      It’s your own fault!

    • Oh deary me John, see when the adminstrators are bangin at yer door dont forget to tell him about those decisions to turn down many hundreds of thousands of pounds and see if he agrees with you.
Ive yet to see any support, large or small, score a goal

  2. These clubs. That reduce the visiting fans hoping their own supporters buy the tickets deserve all t,hey get!, Nothing! It happens time and time again; yet when it comes too semi finals and finals the same maddens think they should get half the ticket allocation!, The share out should be by the average attendance at their grounds!. And if the boogy man turns up too shut them down he certainly would not be happy turning thousands of pounds down by not selling when they could!.
