Photo Of The Day: Battle Of The Bogside

Today’s photo of the day revisits a great afternoon from the beginning of the season, when Celtic demolished theRangers 4-0 at Paradise.

Ahead of the match, the Green Brigade/North Curve unveiled a powerful display, depicting an iconic scene from the Battle of the Bogside. Smoke bombs were used to bring the giant image to life, while a play on Bernadette Devlin’s quote was also adopted in the banner.

The Battle of the Bogside was a key moment in the oppressed Irish people’s resistance to civil rights abuses and second class citizenship. It was one of the major events that led to the Nationalist / Republican community rebelling against the violation of Ireland’s territorial integrity and national democracy.

As a club with strong Irish roots and political roots at that, this story resonated with many supporters. It certainly looked stunning too.
