Photo Of The Day: Bertie Auld Scores In Another League Cup Final

The return of the photo of the day is poignant for obvious reasons. The man in the image needs no introduction. He is a legend in every sense of the word.

Bertie Auld can be seen wearing the unfamiliar number 11 shorts as he celebrates giving Celtic an early lead in the 1969/70 League Cup Final against St Johnstone. It was to be the only goal of the game.

Bertie’s strike meant that he had scored in consecutive victorious league Cup finals. Indeed the talented midfielder netted Celtic’s second in a 6-2 win over Hibs in the competition’s last stage a few months earlier.
