Photo Of The Day: Birthday Bhoy Pat Crerand Celebrates His Wedding

Today’s photo of the day dates back to 27 June 1963, when Celtic’s Pat Crerand married Noreen Terry.

Crerand is a Gorbals man, who grew up supporting Celtic. His wife too is a Scot of Irish descent and the pair went on to have three children together. Meanwhile, another family connection of note was that Lisbon Lion Charlie Gallagher was Pat’s cousin.

Although the name of Pat Crerand is now synonymous with Manchester United, where the midfielder earned legendary status by winning two league titles and a European Cup, he was an outstanding footballer for the Hoops too.

He played over 100 games for Celtic and was idolised by the fans. Sadly, this was at a time when Celtic weren’t successfully so honours escaped him in Scotland. Had he remained at Paradise then he may have ended up a Lisbon Lion.

Pat celebrates his 83rd birthday today. He remains a Celtic supporter, alongside his love of Manchester United. We wish him many happy returns.
