Photo Of The Day: Celtic Fans At Dens Park 1983

Today’s photo of the day revisits an away day in the sun from many years ago, as Celtic faced Dundee at Dens Park on 24 September 1983. A crowd of 11,000 turned up, the bulk of which were Celtic supporters, and were treated to an eight goal fest as Celtic thumped the hosts 6-2.

The away support appeared to be giving either a ‘cheerio’ gesture to the opposition fans, or perhaps they’re giving them a ‘five’ before the sixth goal went in. Either way, it looks like a celebratory mood.

Celtic actually went behind in the 19th minute, but hit back with a strike by Tommy Burns before Brian McClair netted four goals! Melrose scored a sixth, then Ferguson got his and Dundee’s second of the game with a late consolation.
