Photo Of The Day: Celtic Fans In Belgrade

Today’s photo of the day rewinds to September 1989 when Celtic fans travelled in good numbers to Mostar for the European Cup Winner’s Cup clash against Partizan Belgrade.

1,000 Celts made the trip to the neutral Bosnia & Herzegovina based venue (Gradski Stadium), where the match was held on the instruction of UEFA due to crowd trouble the previous season.

Celtic lost the match 2-1, setting up an exciting home leg in Glasgow, which famously resulted in an agonizing 5-4 victory for the Hoops; agonizing because the away goals rule meant that Celtic were eliminated.
