Photo Of The Day: Dan Majstorovic Makes A Sliding Tackle During Celtic’s 3-0 Away Win In Sion

It’s hard to believe that today’s photo of the day is from almost a decade ago, when Celtic exited the Europa League qualifiers with a 3-1 defeat in Sion, only to be re-instated when Sion fielded an ineligible player and the Bhoys were handed a 3-0 victory!

The photo of choice depicts Dan Majstorovic making an ill timed challenge in the first minute of the match. The tackle resulted in him being sent off and Sion were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Pascal Feindouno. It was the beginning of a dreadful night.

Ironically, when Celtic were given a second chance in the tournament, they actually fared quite well in a very tough group. The Hoops beat Rennes at home and drew away, as well as drawing in both games against a very strong Udinese team (finished fourth in Serie A that season), and narrowly lost twice against Atletico Madrid. However, it wasn’t enough to advance to the knockout stages as Celtic finished third on 6 points, whilst Udinese were second with 9 points and Atletico Madrid topped the group with 13 points.
