Photo Of The Day: David Turnbull’s Fir Park Screamer

The long awaited return of the photo of the day feature revisits a crucial point in the recent SPFL season, when Celtic closed the gap at the top to four points.

The Hoops were just hitting their stride and travelled to Fir Park six points behind theRangers. Jota gave the visitors the lead, before David Turnbull sealed the points with a tremendous strike from 25 yards against his former club.

Elsewhere, theRangers conceded a late goal against Hearts and were held to a draw. The gap was cut to four points and the title race was back on.

It was one of many key points in the campaign and was such an aesthetically pleasing goal in it’s own right.

  1. Turnbull is a player i rate highly. He has a good engine on him, a hard worker who links up play well with teammates, and as an added bonus is a real goal threat in and around the box; he’s scored a good few long range screamers in his short career to date!

My only gripe with him, and a few other players in our team/squad, is that lack of that little bit of extra composure in and around the box in attacking moves, but i have seen big improvements in that department under Ange, with still a bit of work to do.

One perfect example of how our players need to perform, particularly on the big European stage, is looking at Bodo/Glimt in and around the box, with their crisp fast paced precise passing and movement to penetrate defences(the way they did against us) and pick the perfect pass to the player in the best position to score, quickly and with maximum composure before defenders have time to react…a lot of the time our attackers try shoot from hopeful positions when there’s a pass on to a man in a better position.

Its the small things like that, that can make the difference between a good team and a great one, between victory and defeat.

  2. … Bodo clearly put a lot of work in on training to be that lethal in and around the box, and it pays off for them.
