Photo Of The Day: Happy Heavenly Birthday Jinky

Today’s photo of the day is a special one as it shows the greatest ever Celt, Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone, in action. The image, which shows Johnstone leaping into the air during the 1970 Scottish Cup Final defeat against Aberdeen, was chosen because today would have been the great man’s 78th birthday.

Jinky was born in Glasgow on 30 September 1944. A Lisbon Lion, it goes without saying that he is a Celtic legend, but Johnstone was more than that. For many supporters, he is the greatest and most skillful player that we will ever see in the Hoops. Perhaps only rivaled by Patsy Gallacher in the dribbling stakes, Jinky was officially recognised as the Greatest Ever Celt in 2002.

He will never be forgotten!
