Photo Of The Day: International Items On Display In Baird’s Bar

Today’s photo of the day is slightly unusual, in that it takes you to Baird’s Bar on the Gallowgate; the most famous Celtic supporter’s pub prior to its recent demise.

Baird’s was famed for its wall to wall memorabilia, inspired by the history of Celtic and Ireland. However, as seen by today’s feature – there was an international touch to things too.

The pub was the scene of Kenny Dalglish and Vidar Riseth’s infamous press conference just over two decades ago, whilst it was always a popular haunt on match day. Meanwhile, it played a major role in the cultural identity of the Glasgow Irish and Celtic support.

The story of Bairds Bar and the Gallowgate area, in terms of the Celtic support, was told by The Celtic Star in a recent article. You can read that piece by clicking HERE – The Gallowgate: A Hub of Celtic History, Traditional Bars & That Baird’s Press Conference.
