Photo Of The Day: Most Of The Football Greats Have Passed Through Parkhead’s Gates

Today’s photo of the day is more topical as it looks back to a fantastic scene in a match between Celtic, and tonight’s opponents, Hibernian.

Two of the greatest footballers in the world can be seen in the image – Danny McGrain and arguably the best all time, George Best.

Celtic defeated Hibernian 4-0 in the Scottish Premier League that day, 29 March 1980. It was the only competitive game Best played at Celtic Park.

Most of the football Greats have passed through Parkhead’s gates indeed.

And for those who missed this one on The Celtic Star, here’s a catch-up chance to check out the photographs given to this site by the former Celtic Director Tom Grant of the demolition of the old Celtic Park and in its place the emergence of the New Celtic Park which we know and love today. These photographs are fascinating and well worth checking out on the link below…
