Photo Of The Day: Roddie MacDonald Lifts The Cup

Today’s photo of the day rewinds some decades to a time when Roddie MacDonald was patrolling the defence for the Hoops.

Roddie departed the club, on this day in 1981, after 9 years of service. He won 4 league titles, 4 Scottish Cups and a League Cup during his time at Parkhead, before signing for Heart of Midlothian in a deal worth £55,000.

MacDonald played over 250 games for the Celts and scored 34 goals. A very fine return for a defender.

He was well liked by the fans and was overall a fine acquisition from Brora Rangers, having been recommended to Celtic by Sammy Wilson, as an 18 year old.

Here, MacDonald is pictured holding aloft the Scottish Cup.
