SCOTT BROWN has paid tribute to the Lisbon Lions on the 53rd Anniversary of the European Cup triumph over Inter Milan in Lisbon. The Celtic captain has taken to his Twitter to post a photo of himself sporting a Cesar t-shirt with the tagline on the shirt saying ‘where you went others followed’ in a nod to Celtic becoming the first British side to win the trophy.

The Lions were crowned with a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan at the Estadio de Nacional in Lisbon. Inter led through a penalty from Mazzola after Jim Craig fouled Cappellini in the box.

Stein’s side, who had completed a domestic treble already, pushed as the second half progressed and had a number of chances. Tommy Gemmell scored with a thunderous effort from 25 yards out to level the game up after the hour mark.

Celtic got the winner with five minutes to go when Bobby Murdoch’s effort was put into the net by Stevie Chalmers. The Champions of Europe were crowned in what was the greatest day in Celtic’s history.

Meanwhile, Brown is the second Celtic captain to lift 9IAR after McNeill and he is included in The Celtic Star’s Player of the Season.  You can vote for Broony here.
