Player of the Month Pam Tajonar Sets Top of the League Target for Celtic

Celtic goalkeeper Pam Tajonar has today been named as the Scottish Women’s Premier League Player of the Month for November. Teammate Lucy Ashworth-Clifford won the award last month so it’s nice that it’s being shared around The Celtic dressing room and long may it continue!

Pam Tajonar is the first ever goalkeeper to win the award after keeping two clean sheets from two games in November, including an outstanding performance in their 0-0 draw away to theRangers.

The Mexican goalkeeper was signed by Celtic in August amid a goalkeeping injury crisis with both of Celtic’s highly rated young Scottish keepers Chloe Logan and Rachael Johnstone sustaining long term injuries. In the 10 games pam has played, she has only conceded two goals, both against Glasgow City in a disappointing 2-1 defeat. Tajonar currently leads the SWPL for most clean sheets.

And her manager Fran Alonso has tweeted his congratulations to the Mexican keeper, who must be loving the current weather we’re having!

“I’m just happy that I can help the team,” Pam told Celtic TV after discovering that she was November’s SWPL Player of the Month. “It’s our goal to end top of the league at the end of the season so I hope I can still do this until the end of the season and I’ll be happy with that.

Asked about settling into life in Glasgow and playing in Scottish football, Pam is clearly happy to be at Celtic and enjoying the different experience of living in Glasgow.

“I have been enjoying it a lot here in Glasgow with the team. There’s wonderful people around me here so I get to enjoy everything. It’s a different environment that what I am used to so it’s just been great to have this new experience and to be learning a lot from it.

“We’re really excited, obviously for the Christmas break. To keep competing in the league we really look forward to winning more points and getting ahead of the other two teams ahead of us. We’re enjoying every day’s work, of course with the cold this past few days it’s been a little different but we just want to be a little better every week and just enjoy our football, which is why we are here.”

The SWPL1 Player of the Month Pam Tajonar will be back in action against Motherwell on Sunday lunchtime alongside her Celtic FC Women teammates at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. Kick-off is at 12.30pm and tickets are priced at just £8 with Under 16s free when accompanied by an adult. Get tickets HERE.
