Player of the year? It’s got to be Kyogo

So who gets your vote for Celtic player of the year? Every single player has been fantastic this season. Each and everyone one of them deserve an accolade for their efforts this campaign.

Of course only one player can get that honour and it will be hard enough to nominate a four man short list never mind pick one worthy winner.

That shortlist? It’s between Cameron Carter Vickers, Reo Hatate, Jota and Kyogo. I think that’s fair to say. Greg Taylor and Aaron Mooy can also consider themselves unfortunate not to be included. If Alistair Johnston was here for the full campaign he would have been considered also.

So who is the worthy winner? Cameron Carter Vickers has been immense at the back this season. He’s been a rock and major presence in the backline. Carl Starfelt has been very good this campaign but big CCV is the glue that keeps the defence together. He’s a real leader and looks as if he doesn’t break sweat. He’s our best centre back since Virgil Van Djik.

Reo Hatate has been instrumental in the midfield. His displays have been well noticed and that has been recognised by several man of the match awards. The Japanese midfielder has been a class act and a joy to watch. To get him for under £2 million is a superb piece of business. He’s played a vital part in our success this season.

Jota has also been sensational this season. Our superstar from Portugal has produced moments of magic on more than a few occasions to help us to vital victories. He’s everything you want in a wide man and is an entertainer. He’s a wonderful talent.

What can you say about Kyogo? The little man from Japan has been in wonderful form this campaign. His 29 goals in all competitions have been a big part of our success. It’s a team game and everyone has contributed massively, but it’s fair to say we wouldn’t be in the position we are just now without the wee man’s goals.

His goals have all been important. Some more vital than others. The double against Rangers in the league cup final, his last minute equaliser at Ibrox. His double against the same side at Celtic park two weeks ago, all important goals in our magnificent campaign.

The wee man plays with a smile on his face and is a constant nuisance to the opposition, he works his socks off, he’s hard not to love. Last week against Kilmarnock he ran back 60 yards and stopped a potential dangerous attack. He’s immense. Players like him are hard to come by. We are extremely lucky to have him.

So for me Kyogo has got to be our player of the year. It’s close, but the wee man is more than worthy, and I think the majority will agree.
