Postecoglou can rejuvenate Leigh Griffiths’ Celtic career, says Creaney

Ange Postecoglou can rejuvenate Leigh Griffiths’ stalling Celtic career, according to Gerry Creaney. The former Celtic striker believes that the arrival of the Australian can push the 30-year-old into earning a new deal as the Parkhead side weigh up whether or not to offer a deal to the former Hibs hitman.

Speaking to The Sun, Creaney reckons that Griffiths has been working hard while awaiting the return to pre-season training with Celtic. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be involved in upcoming campaign as he awaits news of whether he is being offered a new deal.

“I hope Leigh enjoys a breath of fresh air with the changes. His goals and contribution over nearly seven years have been fantastic.

“He’s gone through tough times off the pitch. But I hope he’d find the spirit within to come out the other side and be the player he wants to be.

“Fresh impetus, fresh manager, fresh ideas may help Leigh achieve what he wants. He’s publicly come out, in his own way, to show he’s trying his best to be fit for the new manager.

“If Leigh puts it in and the new manager accepts the effort, then that’s the resolution both should look for.

“I’ve no doubt Leigh has enough ability and character to go and lead Celtic’s line. He’s only 30. He can be much brighter and stronger after all the experiences he’s gone through.”

Griffiths has been broadcasting that he is training as he looks to earn another shot at redemption at the club. In terms of options, the club may be tempted to offer him a deal on reduced terms due to the lack of options. Patryk Klimala has already left for New York Red Bulls while Odsonne Edouard creeps towards a transfer to Leicester City. Moi Elyounoussi, who occasionally was played up front, has returned to Southampton leaving just Albian Ajeti and Vakoun Issouf Bayo as the club’s only contracted options. Bayo may be moved on so Postecoglou may want Griffiths, who scored just six goals last season, to remain as another alternative.
