Postecoglou expecting tough test from United despite poor run

Ange Postecoglou has said that he is expecting a tough test from Dundee United despite their poor run of form in recent weeks. After an excellent win over AZ Alkmaar in the Conference League Qualifiers, they were beaten 1-0 at home to Livingston, 7-0 away to AZ, 4-1 away to Hearts and 3-0 at home to St Mirren.

The results have put pressure on new United boss Jack Ross, who only replaced Tam Courts in the summer. Speaking to the media yesterday, Postecoglou said that he would be expecting a tough game at Tannadice despite their record in the last few weeks.

“They are struggling, it is the nature of football. If you said a couple of weeks ago after they beat AZ at home that they would be in this situation – but that is the nature of football and that’s how quickly it can change and that’s how quickly it can change again.

“I’m sure they will be looking at our fixture on Sunday, where they want to turn around their fortunes, saying a strong performance against us is a good way to go about it so we have to be ready for that.

“We have to ignore the fact that they are struggling and not think that they are going to come out weakened and make sure we are preparing, as we always do, for them to be at their best, to make it difficult.

“We know it is not going to be an easy fixture and from our perspective it is important we continue on our form.”

Celtic drew with United on their last meeting back in May but it was enough to secure the league title for Celtic, sparking scenes of celebration from the travelling support.

United players locked Ross out of a ‘clear the air’ meeting following their poor run of form. Ross has come under some stick from the supporters after the poor form, despite only being in the door for a few months.

Celtic travel up to the City of Discovery ahead of another trip to Dingwall to face Ross County in the Cup before facing Rangers next Saturday. After the Glasgow Derby, Real Madrid arrive to face the Scottish Champions.
