Postecoglou praises Celtic’s stand-in skipper Joe Hart

Ange Postecoglou has praised stand-in captain Joe Hart. In Callum McGregor’s absence, the former Man City goalkeeper has worn the armband and has been the one to lead his team into the Huddle and Postecoglou has praised him ahead of the Europa League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow.

Speaking to the media conference today, Postecoglou was asked about the influence of Hart and why he has taken on the armband.

“He’s been great. He’s obviously a very experienced guy. He’s new to the club and he’s been really respectful of the fact that he’s just come to this football club, he also understood when we brought him in that one of the reasons was his experience.

“The teams we are putting out at the moment are very young in terms of experience and age in many respects so having someone like Joe, who has played at the highest level certainly helps. I think he’s doing a good job.”

McGregor may return to the squad for tomorrow but it is still likely that Hart will lead the Celts out to face the Bundesliga side. Hart has been an excellent acquisition by Celtic since arriving from Spurs in the summer. The 34-year-old has made 13 appearances so far this season and despite a momentary lapse in concentration against AZ Alkmaar, Hart has been brilliant between the sticks for the club, a player of his pedigree will only improve Celtic and his arrival has helped Postecoglou address an extremely problematic position at the club.
