Premier League clubs already scouting Celtic’s ‘Greek God’ according to Giannis Chorianopoulos

I guess twelve goals in 22 appearances – with a couple of hat-tricks thrown in for good measure – is bound to attract a bit of attention. When you add to that the player attracting the admiring glances was also the Dutch Eredivisie’s top scorer last season prior to this current prolific form, and for a team that was relegated to boot, then Giorgos Giakoumakis being linked with English Premier League clubs should perhaps come as no surprise.

Giannis Chorianopoulos, Sports journalist and Editor in Chief at Sportime newspaper and Sportime.gr has taken to social media today to let it be known that ‘Premier League clubs are already scouting Celtic ‘s Giorgos Giakoumakis’…

Whether there is much in this story is open to scrutiny, after all English scouts not advising their clubs on the talents of a player just up the road – and in incredible goalscoring form – would probably not be doing their job to the best of their abilities. As such it’s a big jump from scouting a player to bona fide English Premier league interest.

What is does show however is that Giorgos Giakoumakis, much like with his recent call up to Gus Poyet’s Greek national team, is being rewarded for the hard work he put in while others were resting up during the recent winter shutdown.

The goals are now flowing, plaudits are plenty and the international recognition has arrived. And now there are bound to be a few clubs asking if they missed a trick in allowing the Dutch top scorer to leave for Celtic without entering the race to sign him.

If Giakoumakis can transfer his league form into goals in April, as the Hoops face theRangers three times in a month, then not only will interest rise in the Celtic striker but so too will any potential transfer fee.

It’s been quite the turnaround in form for Giakoumakis since the turn of the year and if there is interest growing in the player from down south then it’s all down to his own attitude and application. For now, however, there is nothing to suggest his focus is on anything other than bringing home a league title and a possible Treble for Celtic in the coming weeks, and a treble of ‘skelpings in April will go a long way to doing just that for Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Here’s where the Greek God reference comes from, Ange’s dry wit is apparent here and this time it’s Celtic TV’s turn…

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
