Professor Jason Leitch, Scotland’s National Clinical Director, has admitted that the Scottish football season may not finish if the Government feel that the sport is not respecting the COVID-19 restrictions as the country remains in lockdown.

Leitch’s comments will likely cause some concern to those teams that were enjoying favourable positions just after the half way point in the league table. However, with the country in a lockdown, it appears unlikely that unless there is a drastic change in the situation then the season won’t end.
As reported by The Daily Record, SPFL chief Neil Doncaster is reportedly unwilling to declare the league early as 75% of games have not been played. This could lead to a Null & Void decision being taken by the authorities if they need to put the season into cold storage.
Celtic are 21 points behind Rangers in the League – with three games in hand as well as two games against Rangers. This season has been one of Celtic’s worst in recent years as the team suffer the effects of COVID-19. Neil Lennon’s side were knocked out of the League Cup as well as the Europa League and Champions League – despite being in seemingly favourable positions. The season has lurched from one poor result to another both on and off the pitch.
