Rangers could be without Alfredo Morelos for Celtic clash

Rangers could be without Alfredo Morelos for next weekend’s Glasgow Derby. The Colombian striker is currently away with his national team but a thigh injury has ruled him out of their games. This means that Morelos is a doubt for the game against Ange Postecoglou’s side next Sunday.

The 25-year-old has returned to Glasgow in order to begin his rehab with a view to making the game. In a statement, the Colombian FA confirmed that Morelos had been released from their squad. Morelos missed Celtic’s demolition of his team at Paradise at the beginning of February.

“The technical and medical staff of the Colombia Men’s Senior National Team reports that, after performing medical tests on player Alfredo Morelos, a muscle injury in the left thigh was confirmed.

“Which prevented him from participating in the previous match against Bolivia and likewise does not allow him to participate in the next match of the Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“For this reason, the striker is called off to start his recovery work. We wish the player a good return to his club.”

Whilst it could be a bonus for Postecoglou’s side, it will not figure in the manager’s preparations for the game as he focuses on his own team rather than the opposition. Meanwhile, Celtic were able to welcome back David Turnbull before the International Break with Kyogo expected to be back in time to stake a claim for the game.

Celtic prepared for the game with a 5-2 win over Motherwell at Lennoxtown with a fringe team given a run-out. The game will be frantic next weekend but the manager has said that he will go for the throat of their rivals with a typical, intense performance.
