Rangers dealt COVID-19 blow ahead of Celtic’s trip to Ibrox

Rangers will be without some players for this weekend’s game against Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic. The Ibrox club be without a few players for the game after players tested positive and now they, along with close contacts, will need to isolate.

The club announced the news in a statement that means that their players that tested positive will miss games against Alashkert and Celtic. The rejuvenated Celtic would have been hoping for a result in any circumstances but they will be even more determined to silence a full Ibrox with a win. Ange’s side have been playing fast, free flowing football with teams appearing unable to cope with the intensity of the attacks – Rangers will now need to try without some members of their squad being available.

“Rangers can confirm that during our testing schedule, we have received positive COVID-19 tests.

“Those identified as positive are now in self isolation along with ‘close contacts’.

Rangers were up in Dingwall on Sunday, this could mean that the journey back from the Highlands resulted in a few players coming in contact with the positive players and as a result, a few players could be set to miss the game on Sunday, the first Glasgow Derby of the new season.

Celtic suffered their own COVID-19 nightmare last season with a number of players having to isolate at different stages; however, the Celtic support will feel that this has been a long time coming and that they can get a result on Sunday to push Celtic three points ahead of Gerrard’s side.
