Real Madrid a year on, hopefully we’ve learned our lesson

One year ago this week we lost to Real Madrid, let’s hope we’ve learned our lesson as we look forward to this season’s Champions League campaign getting underway in Rotterdam…

One year ago this week we lost our opening Champions League group stages game against Real Madrid at Celtic Park.

Although the scoreline of 0-3 looked like a thumping, it was anything but. Yes Real had too much class for us in the end, they were European Champions after all, but we gave them a good game regardless. It wasn’t good enough in the end, but we gave everything we had.

It could have been so much different had Callum McGregor’s shot hit the back of the net instead of the post early on. Then again It might not have made a difference, but I guess we’ll never know. We had a few other half chances in the game which we failed to take and that was our problem. We didn’t take our chances and at that level it comes back to bite you as Real proved in a twenty minute spell in the second half.

Hopefully we can take these lessons into this year’s competition. We have to or the outcome will be the same.
Our group is tough yet again, but arguably kinder than last year. We have to make our experience of last year count if we want to make headway in this group.

Let’s hope we’ve learned our lesson.
