Real Madrid v Celtic: Joe Hart named Captain in light of CCV absence

Celtic have confirmed to the supporters through social media that goalkeeper Joe Hart will captain the side in lew of both Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers being sidelined by injury. USA international Carter-Vickers had been standing in for the boyhood Celtic fan McGregor before he suffered from a malady of his own following an intense tussle with Livingston’s Joel Nouble last Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.

So it now looks as if it will be former Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur player Hart who will step into the void created by the omission of Cameron and Cal Mac. The big Englishman will know the score and we should be thankful we have such an experienced professional to take the pressure of our younger players tonight in the cauldron of the Santiago Bernabèu.

With plenty of experience as a former Premier League winner with City and amassing countless England caps with his country at international tournaments and beyond, Joe will be that calming influence amongst the group this evening; particularly when we have rough periods to endure without the football. And there will be many!

Here’s Celtic’s official tweet to confirm the news….

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
