Reconstruction still on the table as Thistle make impassioned plea to save relegated clubs

MONDAY will prove to be pivotal for the future of Scottish football as the final reconstruction bid will either go to a vote for be consigned to failure. Hearts, Rangers and now the SPFL have attempted to force a change to the SPFL structure with a 14-10-10-10 option remaining the last option. Celtic supported the move last week to include their colts team in the bottom division but will surely support another attempt to save Hearts from the drop.

Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer are currently preparing for life in the division below but Monday could prove to be their last attempt to avoid relegation. Thistle have today released a statement begging their fellow SPFL members to put rivalries aside and save the relegated clubs.

“For Thistle, if proposed reconstruction fails, the consequences of the actions visited on us by fellow clubs will be long term and serious. We will prevail because “that which does not kill us makes us stronger” but not before we suffer more pain and financial harm than is necessary or fair.

“We believe it is time for clubs to show solidarity with us as we arbitrarily and disproportionately bear the brunt of the damage being done to our game due to circumstances that are no-one’s fault.

“Our plea is simple: choose to do no harm.”

Thistle, Hearts and Stranraer have battle to save their status to no avail so far as their fellow members vote them down in self-interest. However, the 14-10-10-10 option represents the best option for Scottish football as it means that there will be no losers. Hearts represent one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and Tynecastle is a brilliant ground to visit, the SPFL and Sky will know that the games at Tynecastle and derby matches will be missed so attempts to save them are understandable.

Elsewhere, Ross County Chief Roy MacGregor has told Hearts to ‘take their medicine’ by accepting their relegation. Hearts were surprisingly at the bottom of the table for a large amount of the season and deserved to be relegated in normal circumstances. However, Hearts had proven that they were capable of taking points off of top six clubs.

In today’s edition of the Times MacGregor believes that the legal bid by the Jambos would fail should the reconstruction bid fail, which he doesn’t believe is the right thing at the moment.

Tomorrow and Monday will prove to be pivotal to the Scottish game as reconstruction will finally be decided, whether for or against the saving of three clubs as well as giving the Scottish game another shakeup in order to best promote the game.
