Report: Celtic transfer plans open door for Lennon Miller swoop

Celtic are reportedly keen on adding in two key positions this summer, which opens the door for a move for Lennon Miller from Motherwell. The Scottish Champions are eager to add in the final third with wingers a priority for Brendan Rodgers; however, the Irishman may be targeting more additions across the park.

As per Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Celtic are expecting to make additions to their squad in the middle of defence as well as in the centre of midfield.

The latter may be in response to interest in Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate, who has admirers in England and Europe. However, it may also be recognition from the manager that Celtic’s role in the footballing food chain should be picking up and developing Scotland’s brightest talents. While a central defender would be a good addition to manage CCV’s game time, there’s only really one player that Celtic would look to add if they wanted another central midfielder – Lennon Miller.

Miller has been Motherwell’s standout for the last two seasons and is expected to move on this summer with a number of teams vying for his signature.

Miller would cost upwards of £6m to land the talented youngster. The question is whether there is room in the Celtic midfield at present, the likely answer is no but the player’s trajectory likely means that he will be out of reach if Celtic don’t act this summer.

Celtic have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks to strengthen the squad, especially in attack. Luis Palma, Marco Tilio and Nicolas Kühn have all departed leaving Celtic light in the wide areas.

Celtic have added Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren to their ranks this summer, two players that improve the first team.

J-League duo Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada have been signed but rather than being first team options, they’ve been brought in to be assessed and evaluated rather than being treated as first team ready players. Callum Osmand has been brought in by Fulham but his status appears to be that of a development player.

Meanwhile, Ross Doohan has replaced Scott Bain as the third goalie behind Kasper Schmeichel and Vil Sinisalo.

  2. Plenty room in the Celtic midfield – gladly throw in Engels & Bernardo in swap deal if biscuit tin is as empty as it seems this summer. Miller a must for leadership character not just football ability – which our 2 duds lack in abundance.
