Report claims Celtic’s Jota has ‘agreed terms’ to move to Saudi Arabia

A report has emerged from the Middle East claiming that Celtic’s Portuguese winger Jota will be the latest import to the Saudis summer splash. After some big captures in the form of N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema and Edouard Mandy, it appears that the PIF are willing to sanction more deals.

It remains to be seen if these reports are indeed truthful, however, they have been buying players like crazy this past while and more look set to follow as they try to become a big player in world football. This most recent article citing the man who recently made history in Glasgow’s East End by becoming a Treble winner, comes as somewhat of a shock.

The report by the Al-Kass media outlet in that part of the world – which has 1.4 million followers on social media platform Twitter – has claimed that Jeddah-based club, Al-Ittihad has made a play for the trickster and after having already agreed up on personal terms with the attacker, it’s merely a case of thrasing out a fee with the Hoops.

It states online in a statement about the player:

“The Saudi club Al-Ittihad agrees with the Portuguese player Joao Felipe on all terms and details of the contract to join its ranks during the current summer transfer period; And a few minor details remain with his club Celtic.”

With Jota’s fellow countryman Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm and former Hearts boss Ian Cathro on the backroom staff at the club, the connections are apparent to see. But, as previously mentioned, nothing is concrete and gospel as of yet, so it could just be more smoke than fire. We’ll all have to patiently wait it out and see if there is anything in this one.

One things for sure, he won’t be going cheap if the rumours are true!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Minor details.?
£500 million if you want to discuss. That might not be enough though!
Just wait until climate change grips your part of the work.

  2. how so? this article is about he exact tweet you are claiming is terrible to be writing an article about

    • There was a tweet from a source that was claiming Hatate was going there last week. More substance to this one it appears, we didn’t cover it as we knew just as much as anyone seeing it on Twitter, same as the papers. The Cynic made the good point you refer to which we mentioned. When it became clear later in the day we did cover it, hope that clarifies. HH
