Report: Kieran Tierney wants Scotland return as Arsenal look to sell

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is reportedly keen on making a move back to Scotland this summer. The former Celtic favourite is currently on a season-long loan with Basque side Real Sociedad; however, wants to move closer to home – opening the door to a Celtic return.

According to Team Talk, Sociedad want to secure a deal and whilst Tierney is keen on an Arsenal exit, he wants to return to Scotland. The report states that the player will leave Arsenal as Edu and Arteta continue to tinker with the squad, meaning that the 26-year-old will likely make the move next summer.

After coming through the ranks at Celtic, Tierney went on to make 170 appearances for his boyhood club – scoring eight goals and assisting on thirty-seven occasions. In that time, he was part of excellent success before moving on.

Tierney and Brendan Rodgers have an excellent relationship and this could be a factor in attracting the player back to the club. It would be interesting to see whether anything transpires as Celtic would certainly set their stall out by signing a player of Tierney’s calibre, delivering on the promise to Rodgers to bring quality into the club to compete in Europe.

Tierney made a £25m move to London in the summer of 2019, where he has made 124 appearances. In that time, KT has scored five goals and assisted on fourteen occasions. However, the change in management from Unai Emery to Mikel Arteta saw a tactical switch with Zinchenko and Timber, as well as right-back Tomiyasu, being preferred to the Scottish defender.

A move to Celtic was suggested in the summer; although, a move to La Liga came up only for the ex-Celt to suffer an injury and limit him to just five appearances so far. The Scotland Internationalist will be keen to get himself back fit and firing ahead of the Euros next summer.
