Report lists Sunderland as having interest in Celtic target Ali McCann

Ali McCann was instrumental in helping St Johnstone to an unprecedented double with successes in the League Cup and Scottish Cup. The midfielder was one of the standouts of Callum Davidson’s team and scouting teams around the UK would have been taking notice of the Edinburgh-born midfielder. Celtic have been heavily linked with a £2m move for the player but, as of yet, nothing has transpired.

The Scottish Sun are reporting that Sunderland want McCann as they look to finally end their League One stay this year. The player will likely be flattered by the offer but he will certainly have his heights set higher than League One. With all due respect to a club of Sunderland’s stature, he should be aiming at testing himself in a more competitive environment and attempting to reach the top of the game.

The 21-year-old has seriously impressed in the last eighteen months for club and country. Celtic have been linked with the energetic midfielder in the past as the club plan a huge rebuild this summer. Ange Postecoglou is working away with the squad in Wales but he will likely be working with his recruitment team on identifying a new central midfielder to replace Scott Brown – this could be Ali McCann.
