Report: Neil Lennon set to miss out on return to management

Neil Lennon looks set to miss out on a return to Scottish football after a report has claimed that a compensation package has been agreed for another candidate. Central Coast Mariners boss Nick Montgomery appears to be the primary target for the Easter Road vacancy despite the Hibees reaching out to Lennon.

According to Daily Record, Montgomery is the ideal candidate and the £100k compensation is set to be agreed, clearing his path to replace Lee Johnson.

Lennon had publicly commented on the interest from Easter Road, indicating that he would be keen to return. However, Montgomery has emerged as the preferred option as the Edinburgh club look to address their alarming slide under Johnson.

Lennon won ten titles with Celtic, eight Scottish Cups and three league cups in two spells as manager and as a player.

The stats tell you he will always be a Celtic legend but it was clear that his time as manager in 2021 was up. Lennon should be recognised for all that he has done for the club and hopefully he gets back into the dugout soon.
