Reported Celtic target subject of £500k bid from Saudi Arabian club

Hibs have rejected a £500k bid for previous Celtic target Martin Boyle. According to a report, the Australian Internationalist would increase his wages with the move to Saudi Arabia but the bid has been turfed out.

The Hibs winger scored 15 goals last season and impressed as the Easter Road outfit finished third. This year, he has continued this excellent run of form, netting 7 times including a hat-trick against Rangers at Hampden.

According to The Daily Record, Saudi Arabian club Al Faisaly have had a £500k bid rejected for one of the Easter Road side’s best talents. Former Celt Shaun Maloney has just taken charge from Jack Ross with Gary Caldwell acting as his Assistant Manager.

The player has been linked with a move to Celtic before, with moves touted in 2020 but given the fee that the Edinburgh side demanded, the Parkhead outfit opted against making a move. Boyle was watched by Celtic in January 2020 but the £1.5m figure that Jack Ross put on his head appeared too much for the club hierarchy to sanction a move. Despite this, the now 28-year-old was able to sign a new deal until 2023.

Celtic could yet again revisit their interest in Boyle but it seems highly unlikely given the manager’s interest in J-League talents. Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi are expected to join at the beginning of the January window as the manager seeks reinforcements. Celtic could benefit from youthful duo Mikey Johnston and Owen Moffat gaining loan time under a coach like Maloney, having struggled to make an impact in the first team.
