Reports: Celtic eye move for Serbian defender

DESPITE the date for Celtic’s competitive return remaining unclear at this stage, transfer business is still ongoing. Eboue Kouassi was the first move of the summer for the 9IAR Champions, departing for Belgian side KRC Genk.

Belgian newspaper Le Soir is reporting that Neil Lennon’s side are looking to deal with another Belgian side, Waasland-Beveren. The player that the Scottish Champions are interested in is the highly-rated 24-year-old Aleksandar Vukotic.

The Serbian defender will be available following Waasland-Beveren’s relegation this season and the report claims that Celtic are keeping tabs on him. Vukotic joined the Belgians for £350k in 2018 making him the highest player in their history.

Vukotic has made 65 appearances and scored 3 goals in two seasons in Belgium; however, Celtic could be looking for defensive reinforcements in case the interest in Kris Ajer materialises.

With Jozo Simunovic, Kris Ajer and Christopher Jullien as the only natural central defenders with Elhamed and Bitton filling in when needed. Defensive reinforcements will be high on Neil Lennon’s wishlist.

Elsewhere, Mikael Lustig has been told to find a new club following a failed move to Gent. The Swede, who was an integral part to Celtic’s 8IAR, left following the Treble Treble last year; however, he is now free to find a new club. Whilst Lustig may not be a first choice in the team, he would be a player with relevant experience to play a key role in the dressing room.
