Reports: Celtic ‘target’ Legia Warsaw star

DESPITE no football being on the horizon, there are still rumours of transfers flying about. Reports this morning claim that Celtic are in the market for another left back, this time Legia Warsaw’s Michal Karbownik.

The Daily Record claim that Neil Lennon is keen on the 19-year-old and it claims that Celtic scouts watched him play twice this season. Karbownik has played 27 games for Legia this season, earning 7 assists.

Despite Celtic having three left-back options at the club, Greg Taylor, Boli Bolingoli and Jonny Hayes, the report continues suggesting that Neil Lennon wishes to strengthen in this area.

It seems highly unlikely in the current economic climate that Celtic would sign another left-back. A far cheaper option for the club would be to extend Jonny Hayes’ contract, which is due to expire at the end of this season.

This isn’t the first time that Celtic have been linked with the Polish league, having paid £3.4m for Jagiellonia Białystok striker Patryk Klimala.

Karbownik has been linked with Barcelona and Tottenham – who are amongst some of the sides quoted as being interested in the Polish U19.

Celtic’s focus should be on signing Fraser Forster instead of another left back.
