Resolution 12 rebellion has now seen the Board turn against the supporters

On Thursday night against Lazio at Celtic Park a determined Celtic side proved that on the field persistence beats resistance, as a fine comeback performance saw Celtic come from a goal down at half time to defeat Lazio in the Europa League.

24 hours later the Celtic board were ramping up the resistance in opposition to the persistence of those determined folks trying to defend the name of Celtic. The Resolution 12 rebellion has now seen the Board turn against the supporters.

The statement buried on Friday night was like a knife through the heart of those who have fought for 6 years to have their legitimate concerns answered. Or was it expected?

“The Board does not consider it to be in the best interests of the Company to take the steps proposed by the resolution. The Board recommends that you vote against this resolution.”

The immediate question that arises is why?

Why has a Celtic board representing Celtic fans taken a decision to recommend a perceived injustice against the Club be voted off an agenda onto which those fans have fought so hard for it to be heard, and backed it up with a lot of balanced legal opinion?

It looks clear from reading the resolution there is a clear legal case, it appears evident some form of fraud has been perpetrated against Scottish football clubs and in turn Celtic.

Do the Celtic board know something we don’t? Does this cloak and dagger five way agreement have Celtic’s name all over it? Is that what Celtic are trying to hide?

Are Rangers in some way protected by this 5 Way Agreement? Have the Celtic board been complicit in this? Do they know this joker card agreed with the governing bodies is ‘rangers’ get out of jail free card? Is that why they are so confident nothing will come of this?

The mystery around this agreement could well be the end game for the Resolution 12 guys. Is it possible they know this would be voted down but are now manoeuvring to force the spotlight 100% on the Celtic board to answer questions on just that?

It does make you wonder what is in this agreement it does make you wonder what Machiavellian moves have been orchestrated behind the scenes to kick this into the long grass and hope that time will take care of bubbling resentment. Is Celtic trying to make it look like those left behind are the mad murmurings of a small battalion of soldiers still fighting the war when it’s long since seen a secret peace pact to end it.

If Celtic don’t pursue this with some genuine aggression and seek answers rather than abdicating responsibility, and it’s clear there is no appetite for it, then the attention will surely turn squarely now to the board alone.

What is in the agreement, are Celtic signatures on this agreement? If they are is the Celtic board letting down the very club they should be fighting to protect, the integrity of the Club and of course ensure the league we compete in is fairly competed for. This includes calling out previous injustices to ensure fairness going forward. We need a board to fight for Celtic and to evidence this competition is fair to all members. When it’s not as its biggest contributor we need to stand up and be heard.

The Celtic board could now well be about to find themselves in a very uncomfortable position. This group of supporters under The Resolution 12 banner could now be in the unenviable position of having to raise an action directly against its own board, that’s assuming they won’t just stop when the resolution is voted down. We know they won’t stand down now.

Civil war now looks a distinct possibility. The fact the Board must know this could happen only adds to the weight they could have something to hide. They could well be complicit.

I hope the Board don’t believe the Resolution 12 group will blink first and be too worried as to take the Board on head to head. They haven’t feared anything to date and I don’t see them stopping. The inevitable clash must be on their agenda. They will clearly be thinking beyond this AGM.

This whole situation could have been avoided and though some may believe it’s a futile action and an unnecessary distraction from the football itself, I’d say it’s a necessary price worth paying for the integrity of our game and our club.

The Celtic players showed great persistence up against dogged resistance on Thursday night. If the board don’t believe the supporters fighting for resolution 12 aren’t made of the very same stuff as those players who represent them, then they may well have another long, hard think coming.

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
