Rocco Vata on verge of Serie A move

Rocco Vata is apparently on the verge of a move to Serie A with Verona. The Celtic attacker has only one year left on his current deal and it had been thought that the Hoops had been actively courting bids for him this transfer window to avoid missing out on any sort of fee for the Irishman.

According to the Italian journalist and transfer guru, Nicolo Schira, the Republic of Ireland youth international has been offered a four-year deal by the Italians and he is on the verge of accepting a career change that would see him link-up with former Hibs man, Josh Doig in Italy’s top footballing division.

It’s another sad loss for Celtic and their manager, Brendan Rodgers, who haven’t had their sorrows to seek of late. With amounting injury list and already out of the League Cup, it’s not the start anyone would have hoped for on his return. But the issue of Vata leaving the club is a systemic issue that had been inherent at Celtic Park long before Rodgers arrived on the scene once again.

Rocco Vata will no doubt turn into another Ben Doak and we will all be left sitting thinking ‘what if’. The club really need to try and do something to stop this bleeding from our youth academy, otherwise, they should just scrap it altogether and put the money into the first-team. If we can’t develop players anymore there is no use for an expensive academy.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
