Rocco Vata set to leave Celtic on a permanent transfer

Sky Sports are reporting that Rocco Vata is set to leave Celtic in this transfer window on a permanent deal. And despite being promoted to the first team last season by Ange Postecoglou and also being involved in the first team in pre-season under new manager Brendan Rodgers, Vata’s position at the club, according to Anthony Joseph, has now changed and there are currently no plans to extend the player’s contract or send him out on loan.

With interest from Italy, Belgium and indeed from Barry Robson up at Aberdeen, the Republic of Ireland U21 winger will not be short of options. Like Ben Doak and others before him, Vata was regarded as the next big star quite literally waiting in the wings to make a breakthrough at Celtic and establish himself in the Celtic first team.

With two new wingers arriving this summer the son of former Celt Rudi Vata must have considered his chances of first team action limited and the quirkiness of playing against low quality opposition in the lowland league soon wears off.

Anthony Joseph’s update reads:

“It’s looking increasingly likely that Celtic winger Rocco Vata will leave on a permanent transfer. Currently no plans to extend his contract, or to send out on loan. He was promoted to the 1st team, but the management’s stance has changed. Vata now weighing up options.”

  1. The day Stephen Welsh gets a 4 year deal it looks like we’re letting go our supposedly best prospect. It seems bizarre to say the least

  2. Disappointed with such news as a potential ready made replacement for Forrest was in the offering for the future, especially within a CL squad.
Seems like that prospect on offer is no longer that high of a prize for to many of our youngsters to want to stay at the club?
Strange and hard to accept when a better development is currently on offer within the club, so of course money has to be bought into the equation.
Will remain an ongoing problem for the club to resolve, and won’t be helped by the authorities within Scottish football not allowing celtic to run a 2nd team at a higher level than lowland league.

  3. Instead of constantly buying in players, why doesn’t Celtic make more of an effort to hold onto more of the young stars who have been brought through the academy. These youngsters are steeped in the club

  4. RPM Celticfan on

Can we just shut the acadamy as its utterly pointless in the current climate , the best prospects get cherry picked by the cash rich the poorest get released and we are left with the alsorans , so its a total; waste of resources unfortunately, gutted to lose this very talented player .

  5. Inevitably this will happen again and again as the academy guys see players the same age being imported from abroad. The academy team is now pointless. I feel sorry for the guys in it just now as their is no way forward for them….not with Celtic anyway.

  6. The academy is there to produce a Tierney a mcstay a mcgregor a forrest every so many years , not every year so its doing its job 🙄
