Rodgers backed for season unbeaten in cinch Premiership

Peter Martin of PLZ Soccer has been singing the praises of Brendan Rodgers and his newest Celtic team, fresh off of the back of our 4-1 hammering of Hearts at Tynecastle. The Irishman and his team stepped up to the plate with a diminished away support to back them as the childish games in Scottish football continue in regard ticket allocations, and really blew the home side away without much fuss.

It was another masterclass from Rodgers and his team and Martin has indicated that it could be an ominous precursor for what could lie ahead for the rest of the Scottish Premiership this season.

We’ve now had the pleasure of nearly visiting all the toughest away venues in the cinch Premiership, thanks to that lovely random fixture list that is generated by the pesky computer in the SPFL offices (quiet at the back please).

We’ve rattled off major wins since the first ball was kicked in the new domestic calendar, and have now travelled the length and breadth of the country in extremely difficult circumstances week after week to emerge victorious.

Sitting pretty atop of the league table with seven points between us and our nearest rivals, does look a hard read for those that aren’t Celtic minded. That’s us now been to Pittodrie, Ibrox, Toni Macaroni Arena, Fir Park and Tynecstle, with Easter Road next up this weekend.

Nobody would dare declare a league campaign over in October, but Martin does have a point. They thought we’d slip up early doors with this fixture list and with our defensive injury crisis, they had us dead and buried on 3 September this year when we had to go to Ibrox with a rookie backline.

We were magnificent that day and it really was the catalyst for our development under Brendan Rodgers on his return to the dugout at Celtic Park. An emerging defensive rock in the form of Liam Scales and the sensational form of Matt O’Riley has been the springboard for all of those hard-fought wins away from home.

Every time we’re faced with a challenge we seem to be able to swat it aside with aplomb and ask: “what’s next?”. It’s every bit as reminiscent of Rodgers’ magnificent fist spell as boss with the late goals in some games and the early sucker punch in others.

We look like a team that knows what it’s doing once again after a somewhat underwhelming start. Exiting the League Cup could be the blessing in disguise too that we haven’t taken into consideration, as it has given Rodgers and his side a steely-determination and razor-sharp focus since.

Could we go unbeaten in the league again?

This guy certainly thinks so…

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
