Rodgers calls for a ‘Broken Window’ Summit

REFLECTING on Celtic’s traumatic summer now that the dreaded transfer window has been closed, Brendan Rodgers admitted that he’d be sitting down with Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond to review what happened during the International break to pick over the bones of the summer from hell. “Clearly there are things we can improve on and get better” Brendan noted.

That is something of an understatement but all of that will be put to one side by everyone bar around 800 Zoomers at Celtic Park this lunchtime. Questions about whether the squad has been strengthened or not will be for the back burner and regardless of all the moaning and groaning the Celtic manager will lead this squad to the best of his ability and then look to make any chances in January – this time for effectively.

“We work with what we have,” he stated. “It’s clear it hasn’t been an ideal window for us but we’ll review it, we’ll look at the processes and everything else around it.”

One thing is for sure Brendan wants to ensure that there is no repeat of this now closed window. He was asked if he wanted to avoid having a window like that again and answered with an emphatic ‘yes!’

“I felt it was a straightforward window for us, and it was two-fold: keep the players we wanted to keep, then add the quality into key areas of the field. Which I didn’t think was many.

“But it’s never as straightforward as it should be sometimes. We’ll review it all and try to ensure in the next one we can be better. Listen, it’s nothing new. You have to review.”

Rather bizarrely Celtic yesterday announced the signing of 16-year-old midfielder Armstrong Okoflex from Arsenal on a three-year deal, it’s bizarre because the boy arrived at Celtic around a month ago.

Why the official announcement was delayed until yesterday is unclear but that shouldn’t stand it the way of the boy getting the warmest of welcomes to Celtic from the support.
