Rodgers pushing Celtic powerbrokers for Kieran Tierney offer, according to report

It’s been a saga all of its own this summer transfer window as reports appear left, right and centre about the next possible destination for Arsenal full-back, Kieran Tierney. The former Celtic star has been deemed surplus to requirements by at the Emirates Stadium by Mikel Artetas and it was thought that Newcastle United were really keen.

However, Eddie Howe has decided to look elsewhere and is now currently pursuing a deal for Chelsea left-back Lewis Hall, who is said to be close to agreeing a loan-deal with an obligation to buy for £28 million next summer. This of course would help the Toon who have to comply with Financial Fair Play rules this window.

According to TEAMtalk, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is really pushing his Parkhead bosses to make an offer for Tierney as we get closer and closer to the shutting of this latest transfer period. It’s thought that the numbers behind a deal would be incredibly difficult to do, but that Rodgers is hoping that Arsenal will have run out of options come Deadline Day.

The report states:

“Now Celtic are keen and hoping to talk Arsenal into a deal, although the structure of which is yet to be decided. Indeed, Celtic are aware of Arsenal’s wish to offload the player and believe his price could lower towards the back end of the window. However, Rodgers is desperate to reunite with his former charge, having also tried to sign Tierney during his stint as Leicester boss. Now we understand he is asking his Celtic bosses to negotiate terms with Arsenal for Tierney.”

With it seemingly looking more and more likely that there is no Arsenal place for Tierney this year, perhaps Rodgers is hoping that the Gunners would rather get him out on a loan deal somewhere besides England, as opposed to selling to a rival or having him around the training ground when he’s not part of the plans.

There seems to be a lot of smoke with this one but nothing substantial as of yet that could suggest it has caught fire.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
