Rogic breaks summer silence to applaud Mooy signing for Celtic

Aussie national boss Graham Arnold has been desperate to hear from Tom Rogic, after his text messages to the former Celtic star, in light of the player’s absence from the Socceroo’s World Cup play-off squad apparently went unanswered.

Yet Rogic, who was recently spotted training back home in Oz, relieving any fears regarding his well-being, hasn’t been able to maintain his silence when it comes to the news his Aussie teammate Aaron Mooy has signed on for Celtic, as our former Wizard of Oz congratulated his successor, via Instagram, after news of Mooy’s signing was confirmed by Celtic yesterday.

Meanwhile Mooy has admitted to the part Rogic played in his signing on at Celtic as he was unveiled in the Hoops yesterday –

‘I’ve known Tom a long time, and we’ve spoken lots of times about Celtic.

‘I was always interested to know what it was like for him in Scotland, and he’s obviously had an amazing period here with lots of success, and I’m sure I’ll be in touch with him shortly.

‘I’m just so happy to be here. It’s a massive club with a huge history, and I want to be part of it, so I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.’

Unlike Mooy, Rogic has yet to find a new club after leaving Celtic at the end of the Hoops double winning season. Indeed, it had been reported a lucrative offer to play his football in Indonesia had been rejected by Rogic, prompting rumours of a possible return to the A-League in Australia where he started his career.

Yet with the time ticking down to the World Cup in Qatar Aussie boss Arnold was keen for both Rogic and Mooy to have their playing futures sorted out sooner rather than later.

Mooy has done just that by following in the footballing footsteps of Rogic, now it just remains for Rogic to find the right club to ensure he’s in the best of condition ahead of a tilt at World Cup football.

As a Bellshill Bhoy I was taken to my first Celtic game in the summer of 1987. It was Billy McNeill’s return to Celtic Park as manager and Celtic lost 5-1 to Arsenal . I thought I was a jinx, I think my Grandfather might have thought the same. It was the finest gift anyone ever gave me when he walked me through Parkhead's gates.
